The Jacksonville Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) is pleased to welcome its newest member, Karen McAllister, APR. In her current role as Director of Content & Media Relation at JEA, Karen leads the media relations, video and corporate communications teams. Alongside her team, she's tasked with building brand reputation and sharing news about all that JEA's 2,000+ team members do to improve lives and build community in Northeast Florida.
Karen joined FPRA to connect with other PR professionals in the Jacksonville region and to take advantage of the volunteer and many leadership opportunities that the organization provides.
When asked about a special personal or professional achievement, Karen noted, " I submitted my Accreditation in Public Relations application in April 2021, when I felt I had time to invest in studying and preparing for the APR exam. A month later, I accepted a job offer at JEA that called for relocating from Tampa to Jacksonville. Needless to say, it was a challenge preparing for the APR presentation and exam when I was managing the transition to a new job, new home and city. I was fortunate to have support from so many PR professionals along my journey. Combined with a lot of early morning and weekend studying, I passed my APR exam in April 2022, about two weeks shy of the one-year deadline."
A couple things people may not know about Karen is that that her first job was at Dairy Queen restaurant in high school, and she loves playing tennis in her free time.
